“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” Matthew 6:26-27
- Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come,
Why should my heart be lonely, and long for heav’n and home,
When Jesus is my portion? My constant Friend is He:
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.- Refrain:
I sing because I’m happy, I sing because I’m free,
For His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
- Refrain:
- “Let not your heart be troubled,” His tender word I hear,
And resting on His goodness, I lose my doubts and fears;
Though by the path He leadeth, but one step I may see;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

What a beautiful photograph of such a richly coloured bird. And the song is lovely too. I love those words in the Bible about the sparrows and not even one falls to the ground without our Father’s knowledge. It comforts me about God’s love for each one of us and when I am sad when I see the scattered feathers of a bird that my cat has eaten. Sounds strange perhaps-I love our cat, yet wish he didn’t hunt for small animals and birds. I rescue them when I can. Julia

I photographed that bird just yesterday. I can relate to the situation with the cats. I’m feeding five strays to keep them from eating the birds. So far so good!

Well done! We’ve put 2 bells on our cat’s collar to try to give the birds a fighting chance. He’s a rescue cat and was over weight when we got him. He loves to eat! Our neighbour has reported that he sneaks through their cat flap and steals the food from under their cat’s nose. He is a large black and white neutered tom. When we collected him we thought he was a large lazy house cat. No chance! He loves the call of the wild and where we live there are the moors and lots of gardens to roam in where there are both cat lovers and bird lovers.He has rich pickings. He is on a weight reducing diet and he has lost nearly 2kg so perhaps he is not such a prolific hunter. We hope he only catches the occasional baby bird that falls out of the tree.
Your photograph looks professional. Is photography more than a hobby?

My photography efforts began when I started this blog. My mom gave me a camera for Christmas and I was amazed at how much I enjoyed using it. It puts me outdoors where I can see and hear more of God. It’s amazing what taking the time to be still enough to take a photograph can bring to your awareness. It has become quite the therapeutic hobby for me. I really enjoy it and will spend time taking pictures when I should be cleaning!
Our fat black and white Tom is now too old to chase the birds. He is obese and can only jump high enough to get on the furniture that he should not be jumping on but does so anyway. He only gets up to taunt the outside cats by peering out at them when I give them food. He was a stray that come up to the back door when my kids were young and the rest is history.
I havent found any stray feathers or dead birds since I began feeding my five outdoor cats last year. It is actually a family of cats! They are all related. I guess they keep the rodents and snakes away instead! 😉

I LOVE that hymn. It is not in our hymnal, it has been years since I have song/heard it sung.
Must look it up.
Thank you for the memory nudge! 🙂
